General Presentation

The Latin American Workshop on Computational Neurosciences (LAWCN) is a regional biannual event that promotes dissemination of recent findings and ideas from the field of Neuroscience and, in particular, in its frontiers with computer science, engineering and artificial intelligence, among the Latin American community. Started in 2012 with a group of researchers from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) – Brazil, this initial event led to the launch of LAWCN in 2017.
LAWCN has contributed to spreading knowledge about the brain since its first edition in 2017 in the cosmopolitan city of Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul – Brazil). The II LAWCN took place in 2019 in the three-centennial colonial city of São João del-Rei (Minas Gerais – Brazil). The III LAWCN was held in 2021 at the beautiful Caribbean city of São Luís (Maranhão – Brazil), and the IV LAWCN 2023 was hold in the traditional city of Envigado (Antioquia – Colombia).
LAWCN’25, to be held in La Plata, Argentina, will thus be the second LAWCN edition outside of Brazil, expanding the presence of the event to Latin America, seeking for enhancing the collaboration network among the countries of our region but keeping a worldwide perspective. La Plata is located in the Metropolitan Area around Buenos Aires city and is also the capital city of Buenos Aires province, being an important administrative and educational center. The National University of La Plata, which will act as the host organization, is the fourth oldest university in Argentina and among the three most influential in the country. La Plata was one of the first planned cities in Latin America. It features a grid design with avenues radiating out from rectangles, providing room for open and green spaces. La Plata presents remarkable attractions from an architectural point of view, including its neo-Gothic cathedral and the only work of Le Corbusier in Latin America.
LAWCN V is deeply committed with diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of science; efforts will be made to guarantee gender and geographical diversity among event participants and speakers.
